He will officially assume the role on 1 August 2024 and will oversee the organization's operations for the 13th Berlin Biennale in 2025, which will be curated by Zasha Colah. Wieder brings with him a wealth of experience, having served as the director of Bergen Kunsthall since 2018.

In response to his appointment, Wieder expressed his appreciation for the Berlin Biennale's status as a leading experimental platform for contemporary art, noting its ability to introduce new curatorial approaches and artistic positions to a wide audience while maintaining a critical perspective. He emphasized the importance of fostering collaborations, engaging with urban society, and redefining the biennale's relationship with Berlin as an art hub. Furthermore, he stressed the value of the biennale model as a means of investing in substantive debates and dialogue, highlighting its role in facilitating long-term project processes.
