Documenta 16 has announced that it will proceed with its next edition in 2027 without installing a code of conduct for its artistic director, despite recommendations from an expert advisory panel. The previous iteration of the exhibition faced controversy over antisemitism, leading to the proposed establishment of a six-member finding committee to search for the 16th iteration's artistic director.

However, following public scrutiny and resignations of panel members, the selectors collectively resigned, citing a lack of space in Germany for an open exchange of ideas and nuanced artistic approaches. Documenta stated that the exhibition and the Fridericianum museum would adopt their own codes of conduct, but the artistic director would not be under such obligation. Instead, the artistic director would be required to give a public talk explaining their curatorial theme and confirm their understanding of respect for human dignity.

Additionally, the supervisory board will now only include five to nine members, with representation from the city of Kassel, state of Hesse, and two members of the federal government. Documenta also confirmed the creation of a Scientific Advisory Board comprising six individuals from the fields of arts, culture, and science.
