Kunstmuseum Basel has announced that Elena Filipovic will be its next director, replacing Josef Helfenstein. Filipovic, currently the director and head curator of Kunsthalle Basel, was unanimously recommended by the museum's committees and approved by Beat Jans, President of the Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. She has curated over 60 exhibitions at Kunsthalle Basel, including solo shows by artists such as Michael Armitage, Matthew Angelo Harrison, Anne Imhof, Deana Lawson, and Anicka Yi. Filipovic has also served as a senior curator at WIELS in Brussels and curated the Croatian pavilion at the 59th Venice Art Biennale. She will assume her new position in June 2024.
