Mary Evans has been appointed as the new director of the Slade School of Fine Art in London. She will be succeeding Kieren Reed and will be the first Black director of the school. Evans currently leads the undergraduate fine art course at Chelsea College of Arts and has also taught at Central Saint Martins. She expressed her excitement about working in an environment that promotes transformative education for emerging artists and emphasizes the importance of diverse knowledge. Evans will begin her new role on October 4, 2023. The Slade School has faced challenges in recent years, including student protests and reports of a lack of diversity in recruitment processes.
